Kandy
is often referred to as the "cultural capital of Sri Lanka" due to
its historical and cultural significance. It is home to several important
cultural and religious sites, including the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada
Maligawa), which houses a sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha. The annual Esala
Perahera, a grand religious and cultural procession, takes place in Kandy to
honor this relic.
Day 1: Arrival in Colombo
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. You will meet your guide or driver and transfer to your hotel. After check-in, you will relax, and acclimate to the surroundings. Optionally, take a city tour and explore Colombo's highlights, such as the Gangaramaya Temple, Independence Memorial Hall, and Galle Face Green. Overnight stay in Colombo.
Day 2: Colombo - Kandy
After breakfast, depart for Kandy (approximately 3-4 hours’ drive). En route, visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and witness elephants being bathed in the river. Then you will continue your journey towards Kandy, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka. In the evening, visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) and enjoy a cultural show. Overnight stay in Kandy.
Day
3: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, you will
explore Kandy's attractions, such as the Royal Botanical Gardens and Kandy
Lake.Then in the afternoon, journey to Nuwara Eliya (about 3-4 hours’ drive),
often referred to as "Little England" for its colonial architecture
and cooler climate. We will visit a tea plantation and factory to learn about
the tea-making process. Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.
Day
4: Nuwara Eliya - Ella
After breakfast, depart for
Ella (approximately 2-3 hours’ drive). You will explore the most beautiful town
of Ella, known for its stunning scenery, waterfalls, and hiking trails. Early
morning we will hike to Little Adam's Peak or Ella Rock for panoramic views. Visit
the famous Nine Arch Bridge and take a scenic train ride (if available). Overnight
stay in Ella.
Day
5: Ella - Yala National Park
After breakfast, journey to
Yala National Park (approximately 2-3 hours’ drive). Embark on an exciting jeep
safari in Yala National Park to spot wildlife, including leopards, elephants,
and various bird species. Enjoy the natural beauty of the park. Overnight stay
near Yala National Park.
Day
6: Yala National Park - Departure
Early morning, go for another
safari in Yala National Park. Return to your hotel for breakfast and check-out.
Depending on your departure flight, you may have some free time to relax or
explore the nearby areas. Drive back to Colombo or directly to the airport for
your departure.
